THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been decided to permanently close two railway stations in the state. The two stations are in the northern districts. The stations that have been decided to be closed are Chirakkal in Kannur district and Vellarakkad in Kozhikode district. No passenger trains will stop here from Monday.

Currently, only passenger trains were stopping at these stations. As trains will not stop from Monday, the railways will reassign the employees of these railway stations. Chirakkal railway station is very close to Kannur railway station. Vellarakkad railway station is located between Koyilandy and Thikkodi. Passengers who used to depend on these stations will now have to rely on other stations.
