MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to transfer the highest-ever dividend amount to the central government this time. For the financial year 2024–2025, the RBI will transfer Rs 2.69 lakh crore as dividend to the Centre. The decision was made at a meeting of the RBI's Board of Directors chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
In the previous financial year, the RBI had transferred Rs 2.1 lakh crore to the government. In 2023, this amount stood at Rs 84,416 crore. This time, the Board has decided to transfer a surplus of Rs 2,68,490.07 crore to the central government, according to a press release issued by the RBI.
The RBI noted that this additional revenue will enable the government to make greater gains across various sectors. Like other central banks, the Reserve Bank also accumulates surplus funds annually, a portion of which is transferred to the central government.
