Pillar of apartment complex collapses in Panampilly Nagar; 24 families evacuated

KOCHI: In a scary incident, the pillar in front of the RDS Avenue in Panampilly Nagar collapsed. A total of 54 families live in the building while 24 families are in the affected block. All of them have been evacuated amidst safety concerns.

The Flat Corporation Engineering Department will inspect the building. The police also visited the spot and inspected it.

People present at the scene alleged that the apartment authorities tried to shroud the news from reaching the public. The fault was noticed on Sunday morning when noises were heard from this area. The iron rods used to concrete the pillars came out and were seen bent.

This building is less than 20 years old. Congress leader Srinivas Krishnan owns a flat in this building.
