Kumbalangad Biju murder case: Eight BJP workers sentenced to life imprisonment

THRISSUR: All eight accused in the case of the murder of Wadakkanchery Kumbalangad native Biju (31), a CPM-DYFI activist, have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The Thrissur Addition and Sessions Court Judge KM Ratheesh Kumar sentenced the accused. The court had found the accused guilty the other day.

Ravi, the sixth accused out of the nine accused in the case, died during the trial. The other accused, Kumbalangad Jayesh (43), Iravukulangara Sumesh (42), Kuttikkadan Sebastian (46), Thykkadan Johnson (51), Kizhakkottil Biju alias Kuchelan Biju (46), Karimpana Valappil Sajeesh alias Satheesh (39), Karimpana Valappil Suneesh (34), and Karimpana Valappil Saneesh (37), were sentenced to life imprisonment. Along with serving the prison sentence, the accused will also have to pay a fine of one lakh rupees each.

The incident took place on May 16, 2010 at 5 pm in front of the Kumbalangad rural library. While Biju and CITU porter Jinesh were talking to their colleagues about the DYFI unit conference, the accused, who were BJP-RSS activists, arrived on bikes and attacked them with deadly weapons. They also threatened those nearby with swords. Biju, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
