THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sukanth Suresh, the accused in the death of an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, has been sent to police custody till June 5. The custody was granted to allow a detailed investigation by taking the accused to Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts. Sukanth will be subjected to a potency test. Sukanth had been absconding for several weeks before surrendering late last month, following the Kerala High Court’s rejection of his anticipatory bail plea. He was subsequently brought to Thiruvananthapuram and remanded for 14 days.
The IB officer, a native of Pathanamthitta, was found dead on March 24 on the railway tracks in Pettah, Thiruvananthapuram. The family later came forward, alleging that her friend Sukanth was responsible for her death. Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death. However, as the investigation progressed, Sukanth and his family went into hiding. In the meantime, the woman's father submitted evidence to the police indicating that his daughter had been sexually exploited. Based on this, the police later registered a rape case against Sukanth.
