THODUPUZHA: A senior civil police officer has been suspended for allegedly stealing a seized sports bicycle worth Rs 17,000 from the Thodupuzha police station. The officer, K Jaymon, a native of Thomankuthu and a known leader of a pro-government police association, will also face a departmental inquiry. The action was taken by District Police Chief TK Vishnu Pradeep.
CCTV footage confirmed Jaymon's involvement in the theft, and attempts to hush up the incident failed. The stolen item was part of the recovered property kept at the Thodupuzha police station. The rubber sheet and sports bicycle, which had been stolen from a house in Karikkode, were recovered by the police and stored at the station as per court instructions. The bicycle went missing on the 18th of last month. The incident came to light when the owner approached the court to retrieve the stolen items.
Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it became clear that the bicycle was taken by Jaymon. As part of a compromise, the bicycle was returned to the station on the 24th. There were high-level interventions to prevent any action from being taken against him. However, action was initiated after the incident became controversial. Although Jaymon was transferred to the Kaliyar station near his residence, he continued to remain at the Thodupuzha DySP office using his high-level influence.
