KOCHI: The High Court allowed the students accused in the murder of Muhammed Shahabaz of Thamarassery, to participate in the class 11 admission process set to begin from Thursday. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas' order directed that the six accused, who have allotments in three schools, be provided with facilities to appear there in person or online.
The students staying at the Vellimadukunnu Observation Home were granted relaxation in their detention from 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday for this purpose. The court directed the Thamarassery SHO and the Observation Home Superintendent to provide adequate security if they are to be taken directly to the school.
The accused had requested the court to allow them time as Thursday was the last date for admission for those who got allotment. If not present during allotment, they stood the chance of losing an opportunity.
The bail plea of the petitioners was postponed for hearing.
“School admission is time-bound. In this situation, a relaxation can be granted for a limited period. Otherwise, their future will be affected,” the court said.
The petitioners informed that the transfer certificate and character certificate had not been issued by the school they had studied earlier and requested time to appear there for the purpose. The government meanwhile informed that the certificates don’t demand the students appear in person as the process can be completed easily if the parents of the concerned students reach the school.
