THRISSUR: A woman, a teacher by profession, died after jumping from a moving train late Wednesday night. Her body was recovered from Chalakudy River. Sinthol, a Sociology teacher at Cheruthuruthy Government Higher Secondary School, died in the incident.
The incident took place around 7 pm yesterday. The teacher jumped into the Chalakudy River from the Nilambur-Kottayam passenger train. Sinthol was supposed to alight at Chalakudy station but she continued with the journey. When the train passed through the Chalakudy bridge, she jumped into the waters from a scary height. The youths sitting near the bridge witnessed the incident and reported it to police.
The body was subsequently found after a long search by the Chalakudy police and fire force.
The police were easily able to identify the victim as she had revealed her name to fellow passengers and was amicable with them throughout the journey. According to an eyewitness, the teacher jumped into the river with her bag and hit an iron grill before falling into the water.
Sinthol was transferred to Cheruthuruthy Higher Secondary School from Kozhikode just three days ago.
