THRISSUR: Locals are concerned after leopards came down in a residential area in Athirappilly. The presence of leopards was confirmed again near the check post in the oil palm estate. The presence of two leopards is suspected. With this, the locals are in a panic.

A leopard came down in this same area on Friday and attacked and killed a calf. The attack took place when there was a public presence. The leopard fled the area after people raised their voices. However, the fear of the people has increased after two leopards were seen in the area on Saturday.

Another challenge is that the leopards were seen in an area frequented by many people, including tourists. Moreover, people say that the lives of workers working in the oil palm estate are also under threat. The small houses for the workers are inside the estate. Therefore, most of the workers are afraid to even leave their homes.
