After playing with fire in the Kannada language remark, actor Kamala Haasan has now turned his attention to the Hindi language. The actor, while attending a promotion event for his latest movie ‘Thug life’, made remarks against the strict imposition of Hindi language in south India. Kamal demanded that international languages like English, Spanish and Chinese be taught in schools in South India instead of Hindi. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan reiterated that he will not apologize for the Kannada remarks despite his movie being banned in Karnataka.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) decided to not allow the release of 'Thug Life' unless Kamal Haasan apologize for his Kannada-Tamil remark made at a promotional event in Chennai.
The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu strongly opposed the three-language policy, accusing the BJP-led NDA government of trying to impose Hindi. Actor Kamal Haasan also echoed the concerns raised by states like Punjab, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He also said that students should be encouraged to learn international languages like English, Spanish and Chinese to get opportunities across the world.
"English is enough. From now on, you should learn Spanish or Chinese. We have a strong foundation of 350 years of English education. By replacing it with Hindi, we are unnecessarily making many people illiterate, especially in a state like Tamil Nadu," Kamal said.
