MUNICH: Portugal won the UEFA Nations League title in emphatic style after trouncing heavyweights Spain 5-3 in a penalty shootout. Spain, with a lineup featuring prodigious talents including Yamal, took a 2-1 lead in the first half. However, Portugal levelled the game in the 61st minute with an equalizer from captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite a fierce second-half clash that left the whole stadium in tenterhooks, the game ended in a stalemate. In the penalty shootout, Spanish player Alvaro Morata's kick was saved by Portuguese goalkeeper Diego Costa. After this, Ruben Neves scored the fifth goal for Portugal, winning the nation’s league for Portugal.
Martin Zubimendi scored for Spain in the 21st minute followed by another well-worked team goal from wingback Nuno Mendes, who was judged the player of the match. However, Michael Oyarzabal scored Spain's second goal just before half-time.
Ronaldo converted a chance from Nuno Mendes with a stunning goal from close range. This is Portugal's first win since winning the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019.
