BHOPAL: The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi (29), a native of Indore, during his honeymoon was the result of a premeditated conspiracy by his wife Sonam (25) and her lover Raj. The plot was allegedly hatched just a week after Sonam and Raja got married. Sonam and her lover even hired three contract killers to execute the crime.
Sonam had been in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha, a 20-year-old employee at her brother's tile distribution company, before her marriage. However, due to family pressure and business ties, she was married off to Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman. The wedding took place on May 11. According to police, on May 18, just a week after the wedding, Sonam and Raj decided to eliminate Raja.
Raj hired contract killers Vishal Chauhan, Anant Kumar, and Akash Rajput to carry out the murder. Raja and Sonam set off for a honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20. During their trip, Sonam shared their location details with the hired killers to help them execute the murder.
On May 23, the couple was reported missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji). Raja Raghuvanshi's body was recovered from a gorge near the Weisawdong waterfall in Meghalaya over a week later. Sonam was also reported missing at that time.
