KANNUR: In addition to the cargo ship One Marble, which was nearby at the time of the ship accident, two ships of the Beypore Coast Guard and the Mangalore Coast Guard are active in the rescue operation. The rescue operation is being coordinated from the Maritime Regional Rescue Coordination Center in Kochi. Azheekal Port Officer Captain P.K. Arunkumar said that although the Kannur coast is close, the sea current is southerly and there is currently no reason to worry about the goods on the ship.

He clarified that in case of a threatening situation, the Coast Guard will provide information and will be on alert. Ten people were rescued from the ship that had capsized using life jackets and eight people were rescued using lifeboats. Two of them were seriously burned.

Beypore ready for rescue operation

Beypore Port has been ready for rescue operations since the news came that a container on a ship that had set sail from Colombo had caught fire. The District Collector had issued a warning. It was indicated that the crew members who had escaped by jumping into the sea would be brought to Beypore Port. A ship from the Coast Guard left for the rescue operation.

Although the Port Authority did not give official confirmation, ambulances were brought in by evening. The ambulances were brought in as requested by the WAN HAI company. Since it was not possible to bring the large ship to the estuary, mini-tags under the Port Authority were also deployed.

District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh informed that necessary information has been given to Elathur, Beypore and Vadakara Coastal Police Stations, Kozhikode City and Rural Police Stations, Port Officer Fisheries, Kozhikode, Koyilandy and Vadakara TEOCs. A notice has also been given to the Health Department for medical assistance.
