PALAKKAD: A police officer was found dead after fatally knocked down by a train in Mankara. The victim is K R Abhijith (30) of Viyyur in Thrissur and a civil police officer at the Muttikulangara KAP Second Battalion Camp in Palakkad. The incident happened near the Mankara railway station at around 8:30 pm on Monday. He was fatally knocked down by the Mangalore-Chennai Express. The body is kept in the mortuary of Palakkad District Hospital.

Police said Abhijith joined for training on June 2. He left for home on Sunday at 6 pm to write the PSC Computer Operator exam from Muttikulangara camp. After the exam on Monday, Abhijith's father Ramachandran dropped him at the bus stand. He was supposed to return to the camp at 8 pm, but when Abhijith did not arrive, the police called him home from the camp.

With this, the family filed a complaint at the Viyyur police station. They came to know about the train accident while conducting the investigation. The body was in a dismembered state. He was identified from the Aadhaar card recovered from his bag. The Mankara police said they suspect the incident to be a suicide.
