Murdered husband after proper planning; critical mistake by Sonam and her lover led to their arrest

BHOPAL: More details have emerged regarding the incident where a newlywed groom was murdered in Meghalaya during his honeymoon trip. The victim is Raja Raghuvanshi (29), a native of Indore. According to police, his wife Sonam (25), along with her lover Raj Kushwaha (21), plotted the murder by hiring three contract killers.

A critical mistake by Sonam and her lover helped police crack the case. One of the hired killers had contacted Sonam by phone—while she was still in Meghalaya, at the very location where she had claimed to have gone missing. This led investigators to suspect Sonam’s involvement in the murder.

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam got married on May 11. Just a week later, on May 18, Sonam and Raj allegedly planned the murder. To execute their plan, they hired Vishal Chauhan, Anant Kumar, and Akash Rajput as contract killers.

On May 20, the newlyweds left for Meghalaya on their honeymoon. During this trip, Sonam reportedly shared location details with the killers. On May 23, news broke that the couple had gone missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji). Later on June 2, Raja Raghuvanshi's body was recovered from a gorge near the Wei Sawdong waterfalls in Meghalaya. At the time, Sonam was missing, and police initially suspected that she may have also been attacked.

However, as the investigation intensified, police found Sonam in a distressed state at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur. After breaking down in front of the dhaba owner and requesting a phone, she called her family, who then alerted the police. Upon questioning, police uncovered her direct involvement in the murder and arrested her.
