NAIROBI: Six Indian nationals, including five Malayalees, lost their lives in a tragic bus accident in Kenya on Monday. A baby and three women are among the deceased. The deceased are Thiruvalla native Geetha Shoji Isaac (58), Palakkad Ottapalam native Ria Ann (41), her daughter Tyra Rodriguez (8), Thrissur native Jasna (29), and her daughter Ruhi Mehril Mohammed (18 months). Several people sustained injuries. They are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kenya.

The incident occurred around 4 PM local time in Nyandarua County, when a tourist bus carrying a group of Indian tourists lost control and overturned, reportedly due to heavy rain. The 28-member group, which had travelled from Qatar for a vacation, included 14 Malayalees.

The ill-fated vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a gorge nearly 100 metres deep, leading to the deaths of four men, one woman, and a child. Local reports suggest the passengers were on a sightseeing trip when the accident took place.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital. The condition of several injured passengers is reported to be critical.
