PEERMADE: A civil police officer has been arrested for secretly filming female police personnel changing clothes at the Vandiperiyar police station and using the footage to blackmail them. The accused, Vaishakh (34), had installed a hidden camera in the changing room adjacent to the station where female officers change uniforms.
The crime came to light when Vaishakh reportedly shared explicit footage with one of the women and attempted to threaten her, prompting her to file a complaint with the women’s cell. Following an investigation, police confirmed the allegations. Vaishakh was arrested on the instructions of the District Police Chief, and he now faces cybercrime charges, among others.
Investigators revealed that Vaishakh had been secretly recording female colleagues for over seven months, connecting the camera to his mobile device. They found that he had captured nude images of several other female officers who had previously worked at the Vandiperiyar station.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and authorities plan to take him to the crime scene for further evidence collection. The revelations have triggered alarm and outrage among serving and former female officers associated with the station.
Youth Congress protest turns violent; SI targeted
Public anger over the incident escalated when Youth Congress workers staged a protest demanding Vaishakh’s dismissal from service. The demonstration, held on Thursday evening, turned violent after protesters reportedly threw a flaming object at the Sub-Inspector (SI). Police responded with a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Vighnesh, President of the Valadi Youth Congress Mandalam Committee, sustained injuries during the clash.
