Gang that extorted money from businessman by threatening to lodge sexual abuse complaint lands in trouble

KASARGOD: Kasargod police on Friday arrested a four-member gang that blackmailed a businessman by threatening to file a sexual abuse complaint against him.

Kasargod Town Additional SI Nalinakshan and team arrested Anankur Tipu Nagar resident Muhammed Ashraf aka Achu (24), Anankur Kollambadi resident Muhammad Riyaz (30), Kollambadi resident S A Sabith (32) and Pulikkoor Shiribag resident P I Habeeb on Friday.
The victim is a readymade garment vendor at New bus stand.

The gang approached his shop and started cooking up sexual abuse stories and sending threat messages to his cellphone number. After that, accused number 2 and 3 threatened that they would give complaints to Child Line. Thus through blackmailing they withdrew Rs 25000 each two times using the IDBI bank ATM card, according to the police.

The business finally decided to file a police complaint after the accused approached him, asking for Rs Five lakh. The arrested persons were produced in the Kasargod court and remanded in judicial custody.

The police are conducting a detailed inquiry into the incident.
