THANE: An elderly man declared dead by doctor came back to life during his funeral. The incident happened at Thane in Mumbai. Dr Prabhu Ahuja told his relatives that the old man has died. The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation is planning to take action against the doctor for the wrong information given to his relatives.
The 64-year-old man identified as Abhiman Girdhar Tayade was taken to Shivneri Hospital in Ulhasnagar last Thursday. He was a cancer patient and had severe diabetes and jaundice. The doctor who arrived in a hurry examined the patient inside the auto that brought him. After examining the patient quickly, he told his relatives that Abhiman had died minutes ago. He also issued a death certificate.
Abhiman's family immediately took the ‘body' home and started making arrangements for his last rites. However, in the meantime, Abhiman showed signs of struggling to breathe. He was immediately taken to another hospital. The doctor there confirmed that Abhiman is alive and started treatment. He has now regained consciousness. The family said that he is out of danger.
After the incident went viral, including on social media, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation issued a show cause notice to the hospital and ordered an investigation into the false declaration of death. However, Abhiman's family has not yet filed a complaint. However, the corporation officials said that declaring the patient dead without proper examination is a very serious and dangerous act.
The doctor responded that he could not listen to the patient's pulse properly due to the loud noise of the road construction going on nearby. He later apologized.
