NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that a time will come when people in the country will feel ashamed to speak English. He said that the creation of such a society is not far off. He was speaking at the launch event of former IAS officer Ashutosh Agnihotri's book held in Delhi.
He said that no foreign language can help one understand their own state, culture, history, or religion. The languages of India are invaluable jewels of Indian culture, Shah emphasised. "A complete India cannot be envisioned through incomplete foreign languages. Though this struggle is not easy, I am confident that Indian society will succeed," he said. He added that the time has come to reclaim India’s linguistic heritage and lead the world with pride.
We are not truly Indians without our own languages, Shah asserted. "When change becomes a mass movement, it turns into a revolution. Only those with strong determination can bring about such change. Today, that change is visible in the country," he said, also referring to Prime Minister Modi's five pledges. He remarked that English is being rejected globally as a symbol of colonial slavery. Shah concluded by stating that while the fight to preserve Indian languages is a tough one, Indian society will ultimately triumph.
