THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Home Ministry again wrote to the Chief Secretary seeking a clearance certificate for DGP-rank Yogesh Gupta to be considered for central service. The central government is interested in making Yogesh the head of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Despite the Home Ministry requesting three times before, the Kerala government did not give a clearance certificate to Yogesh. Without this, the central government will not be able to make Yogesh the head of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Yogesh filed a complaint with the Chief Minister's Grievance Redressal Cell, but didn't hear back.
Meanwhile, there are indications of a move to implicate Yogesh in a vigilance case. The plan is to get a complaint written in the name of some action and inform the central government about a pending vigilance investigation against him. Yogesh, considered for the post of Police Chief, was told about the move by a senior officer, who covertly disclosed the news to him and asked him to voluntarily withdraw from the race to be the new DGP.
This is considered to be a pressure tactic to remove Yogesh from the list for the post of Police Chief. Yogesh sought permission to meet the Chief Minister, but has not received any favourable response.
Yogesh transferring the vigilance files related to a case immediately after the High Court ordered a CBI investigation against a high-ranking government official is said to be the mainspring for the government turning against the police officer. Yogesh had also blocked an attempt to file a corruption case against a top opposition leader, which may have provided yet another reason for the government to prevent the officer from becoming the police chief at any cost.
