EDGBASTON: Indian captain Shubman Gill scored a double century in the second cricket test against England. Gill completed his double century with 21 boundaries and two sixes. India’s score was 472-6 when the captain reached his double century.
It was after 23 years that an Indian batsman scored a double century in England. Before this, only Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid had scored a double century in England.
India resumed play at Edgbaston at 310 for five on the second day. Ravindra Jadeja (89) was the only wicket India had lost so far on the second day. On the first day, India lost the wickets of Yashwashi Jaiswal (87), KL Rahul (2), Karun Nair (31), wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant (25) and Nidish Kumar Reddy (1).
Chris Woakes took two wickets for England, while Josh Tongue, captain Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir took one wicket each. England is leading 1-0 after winning the first test in Leeds.
