THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department has predicted a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. The IMD has announced orange and yellow alerts in various districts. Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert. Orange alert has been issued in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rainfall as a situation where rainfall is between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
Special instructions for public
People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities, anticipating the danger.
People living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are opened in their area and move there during the day. For this, local bodies and revenue authorities can be contacted.
Due to the possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful. Those who are aware of the danger should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.

During heavy rains, it is not allowed to cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, go fishing or go for other purposes.
