Extremely heavy rain and red alert; holiday declared

KASARAGOD: A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions functioning in Kasaragod district on July 20 (Sunday) due to heavy rains. There is a red alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. The possibility of extremely heavy rain has been predicted. The Meteorological Department defines extremely heavy rainfall as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Orange Alert

19/07/2025: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad.

20/07/2025: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.

21/07/2025: Kannur, Kasaragod.

The Central Meteorological Department has declared an orange alert in the above-mentioned districts. The possibility of very heavy rainfall has been predicted in isolated places. By Very Heavy Rainfall, the Meteorological Department means that there will be rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Yellow Alert

19/07/2025: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam.

20/07/2025: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam

21/07/2025: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.

22/07/2025: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod.

23/07/2025: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod.

IMD has declared a yellow alert in the above-mentioned districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rainfall is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

IMD has informed that strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph are likely in isolated places in Kerala from today (19/07/2025) to 22/07/2025. Extremely heavy rain will create hazards. Heavy rain is expected in a short period of time. It may cause flash floods and landslides. There is also a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. The situation of continued rain may cause landslides and mudslides. The public and government agencies should be extremely cautious.
