THRISSUR: In a tragic incident, a Class 1 student died after being bitten by a viper. The deceased is Anamika, who lived near CSM Central School in Edassery, Vatanappally, Thrissur. She was a student of CMS UP School, Pathamkallu. The family was initially unaware that the child had suffered a snakebite. On Wednesday, when she developed health complications, she was taken to Chavakkad Taluk Hospital. As her condition appeared to improve, she was discharged and brought back home.

However, her health worsened again, and she was shifted to Thrissur Medical College. Tests there confirmed a viper bite, with blood results showing the presence of venom. Though she was immediately admitted to the emergency ward, her kidneys had already failed, leading to her death.

It is suspected that the bite occurred either at home or in the yard, but the absence of visible bite marks delayed timely diagnosis and treatment. The family lived in a shed-like rented house at Puliyanthuruth, surrounded by thick bushes where snakes are common. Originally from Pulinchodu, Engandiyoor, the financially struggling family had moved there just four months ago.
