KOZHIKODE: Doctor Vipin (35) of Thamarassery Taluk Hospital, who was hacked by the father of a child who died of amoebic meningoencephalitis, has left the hospital. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. Doctors had earlier informed that his health condition was satisfactory.

The doctor was attacked at 1.45 pm last Wednesday. He was attacked by Sanoop (Sunoop-40), a native of Korangad, Thamarassery. Dr. Vipin was not the one who treated Sanoop's daughter. The child died last August. The accused hacked Vipin, alleging that the doctors did not provide proper treatment to his daughter.

Sanoop came with a dagger hidden in his bag to attack the superintendent. The superintendent was in a meeting. Vipin had come out of the same meeting to check a patient's lab report. Vipin went into the superintendent's office and checked the lab report. Sanoop slashed the doctor with the dagger over the heads of those who were talking to him. The sharp tip penetrated his body. The doctor himself stopped the attacker. Others rushed over and subdued Sanoop and handed him over to the police.

Vipin had previously undergone surgery due to a fractured skull. Four stitches were placed. The wound is seven centimeters deep. Vipin is a native of Thalassery and lives in Kozhikode.
