PALAKKAD: DYFI Shoranur block secretary Rakesh Shoranur, the main accused in the case where a DYFI worker was brutally attacked in Vaniyamkulam in Ottapalam, has surrendered before the police. Rakesh surrendered at the Shoranur DySP's office earlier today. DYFI former area secretary Vinesh, who was seriously injured in the attack by DYFI workers, is still undergoing treatment. According to sources, his condition is improving.

Earlier, three DYFI leaders from Shoranur- Surjith, Harris and Kiran- had been arrested in connection with the case. The police said the attack was carried out on the instructions of Rakesh. Vinesh has already given his statement to the police regarding the incident. All the accused were suspended from both the party and the organisation. The CPM Ottapalam area secretary stated that the party had no involvement in the attack.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a comment made under a Facebook post by the DYFI block secretary. Vinesh was allegedly attacked by the three accused at Vaniyamkulam. After the assault, he was left unconscious, and some locals helped take him home. Hearing noises, his family opened the door and found him lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to the hospital, where authorities informed the police. The police said Vinesh’s family are long-time party supporters, and it is still unclear whether the Facebook comment alone led to the attack.
