Protest against demolition of house for NH construction; Suicide threat with gas cylinder and diesel

KASARGOD: A family threatened to commit suicide in protest against the demolition of a part of their house for the construction of the national highway. They threatened with a gas cylinder and a bottle of diesel on top of the house. They had a gas lighter in their hand. The protest was related to the demolition of the house of M T Basheer in Kasaragod South.

The company undertaking the construction of the national highway had started construction work in front of their house today. As part of this, the family said that the company requested that a part of the house be demolished. The family also revealed that they have received a court order to stop the construction. However, the company said that the court has lifted the stay.

The family also alleged that the house is being demolished without giving notice. They are ready to vacate the house if compensation is given. They will not leave the house without getting the compensation. The gate of the house was demolished six months ago as part of the construction of the national highway. They then approached the court and got a stay. Since then, the work has not been done. The family also alleged that the house is being demolished without following the court order.

Following the protest, the police reached the spot and held discussions with the family. It has been agreed that the house will not be demolished for the time being. A discussion will be held tomorrow under the leadership of the collector in this regard. Meanwhile, local residents have also come forward in support of the family. The locals are asking why more land is being acquired in an area where there is no service road.
