
MUMBAI: Following the historic victory in the Women's World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a huge prize money for the Indian women's team. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has announced Rs 51 crore for the players and support staff. He also described the World Cup victory as a great achievement that will take Indian women's cricket to a new level.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the highest prize money in history for the winners of the Women's World Cup. The winners will get Rs 39.55 crore and the runners-up will get Rs 19.77 crore. The total prize money is 122.5 crore.
Harmanpreet Kaur and her team made history by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the Women's World Cup final held at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai yesterday. Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 298 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. In reply, the Indian women's team bowled out South Africa for 246.
Although they were omitted from the 15-member squad for the World Cup, the all-round performances of Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma, who were called up when opener Pratika Rawal was injured before the semi-finals, led India to the title.
