Court finds youth guilty of murdering 19-year-old girl, quantum of sentence on Thursday

KOTTAYAM: The court has found a youth guilty of murdering a 19-year-old girl in Thiruvalla after stabbing and setting her ablaze. The court found Ajin Roji guilty in the murder case of Kavitha of Ayiroor in Pathananmthitta. The quantum of sentence will be delivered on Thursday by the additional district court.

The incident happened on March 12 in 2019. Ajin stopped and attacked his classmate Kavitha for withdrawing from their relationship. The CCTV visuals of the incident had also emerged. He stopped her on the road, stabbed her and then set her on fire.

Many including the locals rushed, doused the flames and took her to the hospital but her life could not be saved. Kavitha, who sustained serious burn injuries died the next day. The girl’s parents said they expect the court to award him maximum punishment.
