No alliance with anyone, direct contest against DMK; TVK announces Vijay as CM candidate

CHENNAI: Actor and party president Vijay has been announced as the chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The announcement was made at the TVK general council meeting held in Mahabalipuram. Vijay made it clear that TVK will not have an alliance with anyone in the elections and will directly confront the DMK. It is estimated that this has also put an end to the AIADMK's hopes of forming an alliance with the TVK.

Vijay sharply criticized the DMK government over the Karur tragedy. "It is an indescribable pain that we lost our family members in the stampede in Karur. There were many slanderous campaigns against us. We will achieve everything with truth and law. They are trying to blame me and the party for the Karur tragedy. The 2026 assembly elections will be a direct contest between TVK and DMK. The fight will be tough in the coming months. We had to wait for days to get permission for our rallies.
