Indian cricketer Sanju Samson was benched for the second consecutive T20 match against Australia, and this evoked furious response from fans and critics alike. Former star Aakash Chopra responded vehemently to the snubbing.
“Sanju, a batsman who scored three centuries in very few matches played, was benched earlier to pave the way for Shubman Gill. It is an injustice that the talented player is deprived of a proper batting role in the squad.” Aakash Chopra said he was clueless about the management's plans for Sanju. Chopra even doubts this constant snubbing to be a bigger plan to take out the talented Keralite from the national squad.
Although Sanju was in the playing eleven in the first match of the series against Australia, he did not get a chance to bat as the match was interrupted due to rain. When he appeared in the second match, Sanju could only score two runs. After leaving Sanju out, Jitesh Sharma was used as the wicketkeeper in the next matches. Sanju's innings was crucial for India in the Asia Cup final. The player also scored a fifty while batting in the top order against Oman.
Fans also came out against coach Gambhir on social media, questioning the strange decision to snub Sanju despite his excellent stats.
