KOZHIKODE: In a significant setback for the Congress party, Alphonsa, a councillor from Nadakkavu in the Kozhikode Corporation, has resigned from the party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). According to reports, Alphonsa resigned in protest after she was denied a seat in the upcoming local body elections. In a show of protest, she submitted her resignation letter to the Kozhikode Corporation Mayor and the Deputy Secretary at a public event, just minutes before the election dates were announced.

After resigning, Alphonsa stated that the three major fronts have been engaging in collective looting in Kozhikode and that nothing useful is being done for the people. "These three fronts have been controlling the Kozhikode Corporation for 45 years, and the people are frustrated with it. My resignation is a way of expressing my disagreement with the system. It is my commitment to the people that led me to take this last-minute decision," Alphonsa said.

Alphonsa announced that she will contest from Mavoor Road as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate. Mavoor Road is a reserved seat for women. Meanwhile, party leaders said that Alphonsa has been a supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party for the last ten years and that she joined the party after clearly understanding its ideology.
