Delhi high-intensity blast: Two states on high alert, PM Modi takes stock of situation

NEW DELHI: Nine were killed and more than 30 injured in a high-intensity explosion inside a car near a bustling area near Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday night. Six among the injured are in serious condition. The NSG bomb squad have reached the spot, while a terror angle has not been confirmed yet. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held talks with Delhi Police commissioner. The national capital is currently blanketed in security following the blast.

Following the inputs, security has also been beefed up in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is currently on high alert, and an order has been issued. It is reported that Prime Minister Modi has taken stock of the situation.

The death toll is rising after the explosion near the Red Fort in the national capital. According to information available at 8 p.m., nine people have died in the blast that occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station. Around 30 people were injured, and reports say the condition of six of them is extremely critical. An official confirmation of the death toll is still awaited. The injured have been taken to LNJP Hospital. Delhi Police have confirmed that it was a powerful explosion.

The incident has caused panic in the area. The blast reportedly occurred in a car parked near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. The Delhi Fire Department said it was a major explosion and that three to four vehicles caught fire afterwards. Many people were reportedly in the area at the time, some in vehicles and some nearby.
