GAZA CITY: 27 people were killed and nearly 77 were injured in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. This is the first major Israeli attack since the ceasefire agreement, which was brokered with the help of the US last October. The Israeli military said the strikes were targeting Hamas. It said the strikes were in response to Hamas firing on Israeli soldiers. Gaza has not commented on the attack.

Hamas's Civil Defense Agency said 14 people were killed in northern Gaza City and 13 in the southern Khan Younis area on Wednesday. The highest daily death toll since the ceasefire came into effect was on October 29, when more than 100 people were killed in Israeli attacks. Israel has carried out repeated attacks even during the ceasefire. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 280 Palestinians have been killed in these attacks.

The war began with a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. 1,221 people were killed in that attack. Meantime, 69,513 people were reportedly killed in Israel's retaliatory attacks on Gaza.
