
THRISSUR: Anil Akkara, former MLA of Wadakkancherry is contesting the local body polls. He is contesting as a Congress candidate from the 15th ward of Adat Grama Panchayat. The sub-committee of the constituency recommended his name.
He was a member of the Adat Grama Panchayat from 2000 to 2010. He was the vice president of the panchayat until 2003 and the president of the panchayat from 2003 to 2010. Had received the state award for the best panchayat during his presidency. Anil Akkara contested for the district panchayat in 2010. He was the chairman of the development standing committee for two and a half years. Anil had also served as the acting president of the district panchayat for a month.
He contested the assembly polls in 2016. He then won with a majority of 45 votes. In 2021, he lost in the same constituency by 15,000 votes. He raised controversies including Life Mission. He had informed his decision then that he would not contest the assembly elections again. Now, Anil Akkara's candidacy has been announced unexpectedly.
