Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and her beau Palaash Muchhal made a discreet response for the first time after their wedding was postponed. The wedding, planned on November 23 in Sangli, had to be postponed due to Smriti’s father’s sudden health emergency.
The long silence after the postponement paved the way for rumours of discord between the couple. Screenshots purported to be of Palaash with another woman surfaced, indicating that the musician cheated on Smriti while in the relationship. Many said this might have triggered the family to call off the wedding, and the health emergency was a ruse to avoid embarrassment.
However, now, both Smriti and Palaash have updated their Instagram bio with the nazar (evil-eye) emoji. In the South Asian context, the sign is often used to ward off negativity.
Smriti had earlier removed all photos of her wedding from social media after the function was cancelled midway. Both of them are yet to give a verbal response to the incident. Amidst the buzz comes the new bio on Instagram, which has ignited debate on social media.
