THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Finance Department sanctioned Rs 1.10 crore for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to buy two new cars for official purposes. The amount was sanctioned by relaxing the strict conditions of the austerity measures that have been in place since the COVID era.

The Chief Minister of Kerala last purchased a new car in 2022. At that time, the Limousine Plus, a higher variant of the Kia Carnival, was purchased for Rs 33.30 lakhs each. The initial plan was to buy three Innova Crysta and a Tata Harrier car. However, this order was renewed, and the Kia Limousine was purchased at that time.
