SURAT: A Malayali student, who attempted suicide inside a college hostel in Surat, died on Monday. Thirssur native Adwaith Nair died in the incident. Adwaith suffered serious injuries after jumping from the top of the hostel building. He was a third-year B.Tech student at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology.

The students protested that Adwaith was not rushed to the hospital by the authorities. It was on November 30th that Adwaith attempted suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of the hostel building.

Despite informing authorities about the incident, no immediate action was taken. The students had to call another ambulance from outside despite the college having their own vehicle. It is even alleged that hostel authorities, too, showed a lack of concern in the incident. Instead of giving immediate treatment to a severely injured patient, the hospital authorities took a laid-back approach to complete the procedures first.

It is said that Adwaith had not attended any classes for the last four months nor written any exams. The reason for the suicide is still not clear.
