KANPUR: A man kicks out his newly wedded wife from home for not getting a bullet or Rs 2 lakh as dowry. The groom’s family demanded a bike as dowry soon after reaching home after wedding. With this, the marriage ended in 24 hours.

Lubna and Muhammed Imran, natives of Juhi in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh tied the knot on November 29. Lubna dreamt of a new life and came with high hopes at Imran’s house. She didn’t know that greed awaited her in the new home. Instead of receiving her whole heartedly, they demanded money to buy bullet for Imran.
‘Soon after I entered the house, disputes arose. Since we haven’t bought the bullet they asked me to bring Rs 2 lakh from home. They took my ornaments and the money my family gave. They beat me and ousted me asking to bring money from home,’ said Lubna.

On reaching home, Lubna narrated her ordeal to her parents. Her parents said they spent lakhs for their daughter’s marriage. They had already given household appliances like sofa set, TV, washing machine, dressing table, water cooler, dinner set, utensils made of steel and brass, dresses and kitchen utensils to Imran.
‘They didn’t ask for bike before marriage. If so, the marriage wouldn’t have proceeded,’ said Mehthab, Lubna’s mother. She added they should return the money spent and the gifts given for the wedding and justice be ensured. They filed complaint against Imran and family. The investigation is progressing.
