THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is anger brewing within the party members over the lax stance of the KPCC leadership despite the strong demand from members to expel Rahul Mamkootathil.
On Wednesday, KPCC President Sunny Joseph said that action will be taken at the appropriate time. The fact is that the leadership has no alternative but to expel the MLA.
The court will hear Rahul's anticipatory bail plea on Thursday. The KPCC leadership will likely come to a decision after that.
Leaders like Ramesh Chennithala, K. Muraleedharan, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, and V.M. Sudheeran have conveyed their strong stance to the KPCC president. Many leaders also spoke to Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan. UDF Convener Adoor Prakash also held discussions with key leaders.
Women leaders like Shanimol Usman, Bindu Krishna, JB Mather, Deepti Mary Varghese and others have also expressed similar sentiments against Rahul.
It is learnt that the KPCC leadership is reluctant to jump into action due to the pressure put by young leaders. The complaint received by the KPCC president in an email does not contain any details, including the name of the complainant. The complaint has been forwarded to the DGP. KPCC leadership point out that it is unfair to take action without even conducting a preliminary investigation.
There are indications that the Congress high command has given permission to the KPCC leadership to take a suitable decision against Rahul Mamkootathil. The AICC leadership had also investigated the matter at the organisational level based on the complaints received against Rahul.
