Second rape case against Rahul Mamkootathil; Probe led by SP Poonguzhali

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A team led by SP G Poonguzhali will investigate the second rape case against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. The investigation team will record the complainant's statement. It is reported that the complainant had informed the police via e-mail that she is ready to give her statement.

The complaint filed by the woman via e-mail was forwarded to the police by KPCC President Sunny Joseph. Based on this, an FIR was registered at the crime branch headquarters. There was no information about the woman in the complaint and only her mail address was there. So, the police sent a letter to this e-mail stating that a case has been registered and that the time to record the statement should be informed. The woman replied that she would fully cooperate with the investigation. The police have identified the complainant.

This is a very complex case. She was raped in 2023. Circumstantial evidence needs to be found. That is why an expert team including women officers was entrusted with the investigation. The team will collect the confidential statement of the woman. Poonguzhali was a main officer in the special investigation team appointed by the government based on the Hema Committee report.
