THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P V Sindhu crowned world champion at the World Badminton Championship in Switzerland, is in the capital city to receive the honour of the state. Sindhu wearing Kerala’s traditional dress ‘Settu Mundu', also known as Mundum Neriyathum along with her mother P Vijaya visited the Padmanabhaswamy and Attukal Bhagavathy Temples in the capital city.
She reached the capital city last night at 8 pm from Hyderabad. She was received at the domestic airport by the members of Kerala Olympic Association and sports persons.
Sindhu will visit Kerala Olympic Association’s headquarters Olympic Bhavan at M P Appan Road in Vazhuthacaud at 11 am today. She will be driven from central stadium in an open jeep to the venue at 2 pm. She will be accompanied by cyclists, roller skaters and mounted police. Sportspersons and school students will greet Sindhu en route.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will award her a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of Kerala Olympic Association at Jimmy George Stadium at 3.30 pm. Sports Minister E P Jayarajan, will preside over the function. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran, MP Dr Shashi Tharoor, MLA V S Sivakumar and many others will attend the function.
