THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Major political parties failed to secure victories in wards where their party headquarters are located. In the Palayam ward, which includes the CPM headquarters AKG Centre, and in the Kunnukuzhy ward, where the old AKG Centre is situated, Congress candidates emerged victorious. Congress also won in the Thampanoor ward, which houses the BJP headquarters, Mararji Bhavan. Meanwhile, the BJP won in the Sasthamangalam ward, where the KPCC headquarters, Indira Bhavan, is located.

The CPM fielded former councillor I P Binu in an attempt to reclaim Kunnukuzhy, but the Congress candidate, Mary Pushpam, retained the seat. In Palayam ward, Congress candidate S Shirley defeated CPM’s Reena Williams. The official residence of the Leader of the Opposition, Cantonment House, is located in the Palayam ward.

In the Sasthamangalam ward, BJP candidate R Sreelakha defeated CPM’s R Amrutha, while UDF candidate S Sarala Rani was pushed to third place. In the Thampanoor ward, where Mararji Bhavan is located, the BJP candidate was Thampanoor Satheesh, who had recently joined the party from the Congress. However, Congress candidate Harikumar won the seat, leaving Thampanoor Satheesh in third position.

In the Nanthencode ward, which includes Cliff House, the official residence of the Chief Minister, UDF candidate Cleetus won by defeating Congress (S) candidate Palayam Rajan.
