THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran has confirmed that he was questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. He said that he shared all the information he knew with the investigation team. Kadakampally also told the SIT that he knew Unnikrishnan Potty.

The questioning lasted for about two hours and mainly focused on events from 2019. Kadakampally said the Devaswom Board had not submitted any application for gold plating and that the Board did not inform the government about the gold plating work. He stated that, as minister, he was not aware of these matters. He told the investigation team that he knew Unnikrishnan Potty only as a Sabarimala devotee and as someone who had made donations.

Although Kadakampally was questioned last Saturday, the news came out only today. Reports say the SIT recorded his statement in person. Apart from Kadakampally, the SIT has also taken statements from former Devaswom Board president PS Prasanth.

It is reported that the investigation team recorded Kadakampally’s statement based on the statement of former Devaswom Board president A Padmakumar, who was arrested in the gold theft case. However, there are also allegations that the delay in questioning Kadakampally was due to the local body elections.
