KOCHI: Opposition leader VD Satheesan visited Mount St Thomas, the headquarters of the Syro-Malabar Church, Kakkanad, during the crucial Synod session and met with the church leadership. Satheesan held discussions with senior church leaders, including Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil, for over an hour.
V.D. Satheesan reached the church headquarters without using the official pilot vehicle and state car. This unexpected visit took place at around 9 pm last night. It is rare for political leaders to be allowed entry during the synod session, which takes crucial decisions on the internal affairs of the church. The opposition leader returned after attending the dinner hosted by the church leadership.
There has been no official confirmation as to whether the visit was part of an invitation or an impromptu one. Footage of him arriving at and returning from the church headquarters was released by a private television channel. It is indicated that the current socio-political situation in the state and various demands raised by the church were discussed in the meeting, which comes ahead of the crucial assembly polls.
