University for differently-abled to be established in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time in the history of the nation, a university dedicated to the higher education and research studies of differently-abled students will be established in Thiruvananthapuram. It is learnt that a bill regarding this will be soon introduced in the legislative assembly.

The university will be providing courses that will train all sorts of differently-abled people to find out their livelihood. Courses will also be provided on rehabilitation and taking care of differently-abled people. State health minister KK Shylaja's office has informed that it will soon seek Central government's permission for the university.

The bill regarding the new university will be prepared by a committee which comprises Social justice department special secretary Biju Prabhakar, Health university VC Dr.MKC Nair and Child Development Centre director Dr Babu George. Though the Central government had initial plans to convert the National Institute of Speech and Hearing into Differently abled Rehabilitation University, the plan did not materialize. It is learnt that the new university might be established at the state government's property in Vithura.
