THRISSUR: Before walking to the stage, "Vrindavadyam" (instrumental symphony) students of Thrissur Vivekodayam School, led by Vishnu, took a minute of silence in memory of their beloved teacher Anoop.

Anoop Vellattanjur (41), the English teacher who led many students to the Kalolsavam stage through music, committed suicide last June.

Apart from his profession as an English teacher, Anoop was the director of the Ilanjikkoottam band and an artist who proved his mettle in guitar and harmonium. He used to pick talents from the school and provide them with training. He covered all expenses for instruments and provided students with all possible help.

Anoop, known among his pupils as a vivacious youngster, choosing his own end, left many of the children he trained in disbelief.

The band, now led by Vishnu, eyes nothing less than an A grade, which they intend to dedicate to their beloved Anoop sir. When they did not get first place in the district-level competition, the children went on appeal and won the state art festival stage. The group consisted of Devamitra, Ghanshyam, Abhyuday, Krishnajith, Shreya, and Abhinav. On the second stage, Anoop's relatives and friends were present to cheer the students.
