Why do many people still remain single despite wanting to get married? The scientific world is currently studying the reasons behind this. Researchers say that higher education and living with parents may be obstacles to finding a partner. The new findings were made in a study conducted in Britain and Germany on nearly 17,000 young people aged 16 to 29.

Studies show that people with higher education take longer to fall in love. Those with a university degree are more likely to remain single. Those who live with their parents and those who live alone have a harder time finding a partner. However, studies point out that those who live with friends or share flats have many opportunities to find a partner.

People who are unhappy and lonely are also more likely to remain single. Studies also show that men remain single for longer than women. Researchers say that although being single in adolescence does not affect mental health, loneliness and symptoms of depression increase in those who cannot find a partner even in their late twenties. The study also suggests that their mental health improves once they enter a relationship.

Another interesting finding from the study is that singles who want children choose partners who are older than they are. The reason behind this is that older people are perceived as more mentally stable.
