The Kerala State School Kalolsavam is coming to an end in Thrissur today without any major complaints or displeasure. A large crowd is flocking to enjoy the diverse art festival of teenage talents from schools from the southernmost to the northernmost parts of Kerala. The children, forgetting everything else on the stage, are immersed in the competition. They forget the deprivations and hardships of their families while on stage. The situation of parents who struggle, work hard and take loans to secure their children's future is no different. Many of those who participate in competitions do not have their own roofs to sleep under. Some do not have parents. They participate in competitions with concentration, believing that art is life. We must acknowledge their determination.
Kaumudi had published a special look at the life of Sachu Satheesh, a Plus One student who secured an A grade in the Kalolsavam. This news, prepared by our correspondent Arun Prasannan, also included the determination of Sachu's mother Bindu, who is working day and night for her son.
Sachu, a student of Kamballur GHSS in Kasaragod, has secured an A grade in boys' Bharatanatyam for the fourth time in a row. Six years ago, he lost his father, PR Satheesh, to a heart attack. With that, Sachu and his mother were left alone in their journey of life. Sachu had previously attended art festivals with his father and mother and secured A grades in competitions. Sachu's passion for art did not diminish even when his life became dark. Bindu, who had lost her partner, took up daily wage work for her son's future and artistic growth. She raised Sachu by carrying rocks and bricks and going for MGNREGA work. Bindu's biggest sorrow was not having a house of their own. After losing her partner, it remained a dream in the corner of her mind. Bindu tried her best to help her son, who was struggling to climb the ladder in art. Bindu took Sachu to the competitions by taking a loan of Rs. 60,000 for the sub-district competition and Rs. 50,000 for the district competition. The school gave them Rs. 32,000 to participate in the state school art festival. In addition, many well-wishers helped them.
After losing his father, Sachu and his mother have been living in a small house with Bindu's sister Lakshmi, her husband and children. They belong to the Scheduled Tribe Malavettuvan community. Sachu's biggest wish was to study, get a job and build a house for his mother.
Education Minister V. Sivankutty noticed the hardships of Sachu, who secured an A grade in Bharatanatyam and Kerala Natanam for boys in the Higher Secondary category, through the Kerala Kaumudi news. He announced that a house worth Rs. 15 lakhs would be built for Sachu. The minister also assigned Thrikaripur MLA Rajagopalan to oversee the related matters. This timely intervention by the minister is a great encouragement for Sachu's future life and art.
